Get to Know Dr Khan
We had the pleasure of asking Dr Khan some personal and professional questions to give you insight into his passion and expertise:
Q1: Why Psychiatry? “I remember attending a workshop prior to the psychiatry congress in Auckland New Zealand which was about “hearing voices.” Sitting there and listening and talking to people with lived experiences of auditory hallucinations, and their struggles, solidified for me that this was a career choice that I needed to look into. “
Q2: Career Highlight? “When I went to Geraldton and took over my first leadership role, managing a small acute care team, and developing and implementing new policies and procedures to help the team function better in order to provide better care for our patients. “
Q3: Hobbies and Interests? “I’m an avid reader, love to watch and play cricket and love fishing. These days, I spend most of my free time with my three young children, usually engaged in one of these activities. “
Q4: Dream Dinner Guest? “Martin Luther King Jr – someone from history who fought hard for equal rights.”
Dr Khan believes people who suffer from mental illnesses are not provided equal care in the health setting and we often find that our patients are mistreated or ignored in hospitals and the larger community.
“As such, it would be great to discuss this topic with Martin Luther King Jr to see what his insights might be in regards to how to tackle this inequality.”
