Can all independent assessments be conducted virtually?
Red Health’s innovative techniques enable the majority of referrals to be effectively conducted virtually. These methods are tailored to accommodate both physical and psychological assessments, providing outcomes that are comparable to traditional in-person evaluations.
However, certain medical conditions or referral circumstances may necessitate an alternative approach. In such cases, we collaborate closely with our referring clients and Medical Experts to make informed decisions about the most appropriate service-delivery mode.
Red Connect offers two primary service-delivery options: ‘hybrid‘ and ‘virtual.’ When deciding on the best approach, we carefully consider the experience and needs of both the Medical Expert and the examinee.
Beyond the verbal responses provided during an assessment, non-verbal cues such as body language, tone, and eye contact play a crucial role in understanding the examinee’s condition. Thanks to advanced video conferencing software and high-quality phone and computer cameras, our virtual assessments capture these essential elements, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of the examinee and their circumstances.
Hybrid Assessments
For independent medical examinations that require an in-person physical assessment, we arrange for an allied health practitioner, referred to as a ‘Surrogate Practitioner,’ to assist the Medical Expert. The examinee attends a consulting room, where they are accompanied by the Surrogate Practitioner, who facilitates the physical aspects of the assessment.
To uphold our high standards of quality, we select experienced allied health practitioners as ‘surrogates’. They conduct any necessary physical testing under the direct guidance and real-time observation of the Medical Expert, who participates virtually. The Medical Expert then incorporates these findings into their independent medical evaluation.

Virtual Assessments
For independent medical examinations where no physical assessment is required, we arrange a secure video-conference to connect the Medical Expert and examinee. This service is commonly used for psychological evaluations, where the focus is on mental health rather than physical testing. However, it can also be effectively utilised for physical conditions that do not require hands-on testing, or where preliminary testing can be conducted in advance.
The Medical Expert and examinee receive a meeting link, ensuring a private and seamless connection. Our team supports the facilitation of the assessment, including any necessary pre-assessment testing, to ensure everything runs smoothly on the day of the examination. Additionally, we provide ongoing technical support throughout the session to guarantee a comprehensive and uninterrupted evaluation.

Supporting Objectivity and Impartiality
In a virtual setting, it can sometimes be more challenging for the Medical Expert to fully interpret subtle cues, such as the examinee’s overall demeanour, which may be important to the case. To ensure a comprehensive assessment, our Medical Experts are particularly attentive to body language, voice tone, and other observable behaviours during the evaluation.
The familiarity of a virtual setting can help examinees feel more at ease and comfortable with what can be a challenging experience. This relaxed environment often enhances rapport between the examinee and the Medical Examiner, promoting a more open and candid conversation.
The virtual environment also supports objectivity and impartiality by reducing potential biases that may occur in person. By focusing on the details captured through high-quality video conferencing tools and structured assessment protocols, our Medical Experts maintain a clear, unbiased perspective, ensuring that their independent medical opinions are both fair and accurate.

Secure video conferencing software
All virtual assessments are conducted using secure video-conferencing software, ensuring the privacy of the examinee and their matter.
Keeping sensitive information secure
We require all examinees participate in their independent medical assessment from a quiet and controlled location. This prevents incidental privacy breaches from using a common space and allows both physical and mental space to participate in the assessment earnestly and without restrictions.
