Based in Cairns, Dr Chang brings a wealth of experience from her private practice and her extensive work in perinatal, infant, adolescent and family mental health.

Currently, she serves on the executive board of the Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and is involved in several national training accreditation committees.
Her accolades include being awarded Young Queenslander of the Year and Young Australian of the Year, highlighting her significant contributions to mental health and humanitarian efforts. Notably, she was also a Cambridge University Bill Gates Scholar, focusing her research on public health solutions for mental health and chronic diseases in rural Australia.

Q1: Why Psychiatry? “I’m deeply interested in working with children and families as it provides the greatest benefit for an individual’s lifelong trajectory and has a significant public health impact. It is incredibly rewarding, especially in the infant mental health area.”
Q2: Career Highlight? Receiving a scholarship to Cambridge for an MPhil focused on public health solutions for mental health, particularly on chronic diseases in rural Australia, stands out as a career highlight.
Q3: Hobbies and Interests? Dr Chang enjoys cooking, reading, bushwalking, and watching her children play rugby on Friday nights. Her family’s favourite dish is her roast pork belly with amazing crackling.
Q4: Dream Dinner Guest? “Marilyn Monroe – for the old Hollywood gossip!” she adds with a smile, sharing that she prefers to cook for her family rather than dine out.
