Get to Know Dr Lien
We asked Dr Lien a few questions to get to know the person behind the profession:
Q1: Why did you choose to become a Psychiatrist?
“I was drawn to psychiatry because it combines science with meaning – not just treating symptoms, but understanding people’s stories, their resilience, and how mind, relationships, and trauma intersect.”
Q2: What has been the highlight of your career so far?
“Working with and mentoring junior doctors. Seeing them grow in confidence and skill has been one of the most rewarding parts of being a consultant.”
Q3: What do you like to do in your free time?
“Spending time with my young child, reading, and occasionally revisiting my old interest in puzzles and strategy games.”
Q4: If you could have dinner with anyone, alive or dead, who would it be and why?
“I moved countries as a child and my English was so bad that I once answered a teacher’s question with complete silence – probably my earliest training in psychiatry.”
