Meet Ms Nicole Prendergast beyond her medico-legal expertise

Why did you choose to become a Clinical Psychologist/ Clinical Neuropsychologist?

Ms Nicole Prendergast

Neuropsychology really feels like the natural intersection of my interests and experience. I’ve always been drawn to the medical side of psychology — understanding the specifics of an injury or neurological condition and how that translates into changes in thinking, memory, and day-to-day functioning. I find it both fascinating and meaningful to take complex medical information and help make it understandable and relevant to someone’s lived experience.

As a clinical psychologist and clinical neuropsychologist for many years, I’ve spent a great deal of time supporting individuals after injury as they work toward rebuilding their lives and maintaining quality of life. What I value about neuropsychology is the opportunity to meet people after what is often a very difficult or traumatic event and help them make sense of what they’re experiencing. Providing clarity around cognitive changes can be incredibly reassuring and empowering.

I also genuinely enjoy working in both assessment and treatment. Assessment offers insight and direction, while treatment provides space for growth and adaptation. Being able to integrate both allows me to support patients not only in understanding their challenges, but in developing practical strategies to move forward with confidence and resilience.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Ms Nicole Prendergast

Making a difference. I love working with a client and being able to advocate for them in a way that is meaningful.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Ms Nicole Prendergast

I love to read and I will read anything. I spend a lot of time with my family and we love to travel.

If you could have dinner with anyone, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

Ms Nicole Prendergast

Robin Williams – he was such a contrast in how he presented to the world, but showed such depth of emotion and understanding for others. I would be so interested to hear his philosophy in life.  I always think of the times that he connected with his friends quietly just by showing up consistently.

Bonus points – are you cooking or heading to a restaurant?

Ms Nicole Prendergast

Cooking  – I love to cook and make most of my own pastes so it means that I can be pretty fussy when it comes to flavour and taste. We still have some of our favourite restaurants but I will always pick places with food that I might not be able to cook at home.
